K-12 | It's what's for lunch!

What is the state of K-12 in Colorado? What districts are going out for bonds and for what type of projects? Where is the BEST program going in 2013? Join us for a panel presentation with presenters from several local Colorado school districts.

Speakers
Trena Deane, Executive Director of Facilities for Denver Public Schools
Under the leadership of Superintendent Tom Boasberg, DPS has become the fastest-growing large school district in Colorado in terms of enrollment and student academic growth. DPS is committed to establishing Denver as a national leader in student achievement, high school graduation, and college and career readiness.

Trena Deane is the Director of Facilities. The mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe, clean, and quality educational environment for all DPS students and staff; bring quality customer service both internally and externally, and promote operations that are environmentally and economically efficient, effective and sustainable.

Ted Hughes, Director of Public School Capital Construction at the Colorado Department of Education
Ted's responsibilities have been distributing state funds to school districts for renovation, maintenance, and construction projects. He has been involved in funding assistance and construction of over 470 school projects and he has visited over 155 school districts and viewed their facilities.

In 2008, the Commissioner of the Colorado Department of Education, with input from the State Board of Education and the Public School Capital Construction Assistance Board, appointed Ted to be Director of the newly created Division of Public School Capital Construction Assistance, commonly called Building Excellent Schools Today or BEST. Previous to 2001, Ted worked in the private sector in the construction industry as president of a commercial general contracting firm. This background included design, building, and renovation of K-12 schools, as well as higher education.

Mary Chesley, Superintendent of Schools for Cherry Creek School District
Mary Chesley joined Cherry Creek School District in 1989 as a teacher at Creekside Elementary School. In 1995, she was hired as principal at High Plains Elementary School. She became executive director for elementary education in 1999, assistant superintendent in 2004, and was appointed deputy superintendent in 2007. Her responsibilities have included supervision of the district's 39 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, six high schools, as well as alternative programs in the district. In 2009, she replaced Monte Moses as Superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools.

Tim Reed, Director of Facility Planning for Jefferson County Schools
Prior to joining Jeffco Schools, Tim was in private practice focusing on K-12 schools as well as institutional and commercial work. With nearly 40 years of experience, Tim has a portfolio of buildings across the country as well as Colorado. His responsibilities with Jeffco Schools include maintaining the District's Educational Specifications and Technical Guidelines. He also maintains the asset management database for the 12 million square foot District portfolio. Other responsibilities include property management and enrollment projections. Tim was the District's representative and project manager for the Jeffco Open School Project.
