Energy Matters: Alternative Solutions for the AEC Industry

According to the EPA’s Report “Assessing the Multiple Benefits of Clean Energy: A Resource for States,” state clean energy initiatives can produce significant savings in fuel and electricity costs as wells as other benefits to the environment, public health and the economy. With energy challenges and costs rising, the AEC industry is challenged with providing alternative solutions to meet the diverse energy needs of our clients. Join us for an informative discussion on new practices and technologies that focus on the advancement of sustainability in the public and private sectors. With an expertise in clean energy, our panelists will share how to take advantage of the numerous benefits available to the AEC industry through clean energy solutions.

Speakers

Gunnar HubbardGunnar Hubbard, Principal and Sustainability Practice Leader
Thornton Tomasetti

With more than 23 years of experience as a green building consultant, Gunnar Hubbard has been involved in green building efforts across the United States and in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He has played a key role on a wide variety of sustainability projects and project types, including hotels, educational facilities, sports facilities, high-rise buildings, science buildings, health facilities, government buildings, retail facilities, museums, manufacturing facilities and residential buildings. His experience as a LEED consultant encompasses a variety of LEED rating systems including LEED NC, EB:O&M, CI, CS, LEED for Schools, LEED for Retail, LEED for Healthcare and LEED for Homes, and he has experience with Net Zero Energy buildings. His project credits include Las Vegas CityCenter Block C, Harvard University’s Allston Science Complex, more than ten of Vornado Realty Trust’s high-rise buildings in New York, Shanghai International Financial Center, and the Museum of the Built Environment in Saudi Arabia.

Active in teaching, Gunnar develops and leads green building workshops around the world. He has been a LEED® Faculty™ since 2004, and holds a license to provide the U.S. Green Building Council’s curriculum to groups in the U.S. and abroad. His recent workshops were in Shanghai and Stockholm. He is teaching as a visiting faculty at Cornell University and has taught at Ball State University and the Yestermorrow Design / Build School.

Gunnar graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, and from the University of Oregon with a master’s degree in architecture. He is a licensed architect in California.

Elaine WoodElaine Wood, Project Manager

Elaine has extensive experience in the areas of clean energy, software engineering, investment management and real estate development. As a Strategic Account Manager she is the primary point person leading business development and managing key client needs. She is responsible for the overall successful design, construction and operations management of the project and client satisfaction. Her primary responsibilities consist of collaboration with key clients for long-range strategic planning and coordination of Swinerton Renewable Energy engagement. Elaine is also responsible for bid proposals and negotiations as part of the business development process.

Bruce BiggiBruce Biggi, Manager of Economic Development
Weld County

Bruce currently serves as the Economic Development Manager for the City of Greeley, Colorado, working directly with the city manager, city council, and regional economic development professionals to attract, grow, and retain commercial and industrial development in the Greeley community.

His economic development leadership has helped to develop a renewed economic vitality in one of Northern Colorado’s earliest agricultural and commercial centers.  Last year the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recognized the Greeley MSA as the 2nd leading MSA in the nation for job creation and real wage improvements during the period from September 2010 to September 2011.  These real wage and job creation results are due to a growing strength in Greeley’s Agricultural, Food Processing, Oil & Gas production, Health Care, and Business Service Industries.

Mr. Biggi has over twenty years of leadership experience helping public, private and non-profit organizations define their corporate mission, develop strategic goals and objectives, and transform current business methods into sustainable business practices with a focus on improving community, business, and economic development outcomes.

Bruce graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Social and Political Economics.  He is a NREL Energy Executive Leadership Academy and Bighorn Center for Public Policy Leadership Development graduate. As a Colorado native, he holds a deep appreciation for outdoor recreation with an undying passion for fly fishing, river exploration, and backcountry skiing.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be in writing and emailed to admin@smpscolorado.org.

Registration fees will be fully refunded if written cancellation is received no later than noon the Friday prior to the event. Refunds will not be processed the week of the event.
